Mercury retrograde: Release your past

This is probably my last big article of the year, and what a difficult year it has been! Saturn and Pluto had their legendary pairing on January 12, 2020 at the world point in Capricorn, and that is almost four years ago. Yet, as a collective, we still struggle to repair all of the shattered structures and lives that have been impacted since that time.
We conclude the year with Mercury retrograde in Capricorn, which could bring reconnection with goals, ambition, former co-workers, and reexamination of achievement, and how to get there. Mercury retrogrades both in Capricorn and Sagittarius this retrograde period. In Sagittarius, it is about reassing how to stay positive in difficult times, how to soar, expand, and draw in your vision.
Saturn entered the mutable water sign of Pisces on March 7, 2023, and it will transit through the sign of Pisces on and off through February 15, 2026. Saturn represents authority figures, rules and regulations, structures, responsibility, karma, character, and integrity. Saturn also governs time.
With Saturn in Pisces, it is hard to get the journey going or to believe it is even worth it. Pisces is mutable water, and it cannot be contained. It could feel like you started on what felt like a First Class trip on The Orient Express and ended up on a Peter Pan bus with a driver on his soapbox telling you to keep it down while he talks to his mother for the entire ride on a speaker phone.
Don’t think about how you get there. Don’t question your transportation. Tune that driver out with your headphones and let your imagination take you where you want to go. You are most definitely not at the helm with Saturn in Pisces; yet, you need not be. You can still get there. Follow me along, and I will show you. This is a time where our faith and dreams are being challenged in big ways. Put on those headphones. Close your eyes, smile, and dream your new future.
Pluto is the planet of death, rebirth, power, and big money. Pluto also changed signs in the month of March and entered the fixed air sign of Aquarius, where it will tour on and off through January of 2044. Pluto in Aquarius indicates much social change, rebellion, and chaos; as well as a world far more immersed in technology — whether or not we like it. AI has only just begun.
The last New Moon of the year occurred on December 12, 2023 in the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius, which is a sign of optimism, truth, and hope. This New Moon occurred at 20 degrees and 40 minutes of Sagittarius and formed a wide conjunction with Mars in Sagittarius, which strives for adventure and learning. The moon in Sagittarius is one of the most joyous placements of the moon. Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius, and it is exalted in the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the moon. The moon loves being in Sagittarius. The moon in Sagittarius expands through laughter, belief, and optimism. The people I know that share this placement laugh from the heart.
This New Moon was a cosmic reminder that it is a very tough spiritual bus ride that we are all on together, but there is a lot of joy and fun we can have if we do not lose a vision for the future. Maybe your transfer ride is late, and you are stuck at the station. Get your tablet or a notepad and jot down some ideas that you want to magnetize into reality. The Moon in Sagittarius went void with a square to Neptune. Jupiter is the vision. Neptune is the dream.
The New moon and Neptune in conflict could reinforce the idea that it is not worth it and will not work out, so why try? It could also double down the idea that you need to pray, chant, trust, clear space, and have visions and dreams that you cannot lose even if you need to change buses. Perhaps there are deceptive people that are keeping the dream at bay. It is too late to get off the bus now, and we need your dreams. We need to dream together and fuel this bus with cosmic inspiration.
Next year, Neptune, the planet of illusion, fantasy, dreams, spirituality, addiction, drugs, alcohol, deception, vulnerability, and kindness, reaches the final degree of the Zodiac and will be at the final degree of Pisces. This will be difficult for many. Addiction, deception, depression, homelessness, mental illness, and feeling lost. It is a reality we face, but there is such a beautiful, creative, and spiritual element to all of this that we cannot forget. In fact, it is what will keep us going and help us create something beautiful.
Mercury, the planet of information, communication, the intellect, and learning, retrograded on December 13, 2023 at 2:09 am EST at 8 degrees and 28 minutes of the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is a sign of ambition and initative. This is an opportunitity to reassess how you can achieve your goals in a more constructive way. You reconnect with people with whom you used work or revisit goals that you that you have put on the shelf. This is a great opportunity to analyze what you wish to construct in 2024.
Mercury re-enters the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius on December 23, 2023 and stations direct on January 1, 2024 at 10:08 pm EST at 22 degrees and 10 minutes of Sagittarius. This is a great way to begin the year, as Mercury’s station in Sagittarius is a message for all of us to expand in 2024 through learning and hope. Mercury may be in its detriment in Sagittarius, as it rules the opposite sign of Gemini; yet, I find people that have this signature, devour a lot of information and are constantly curious about a variety of things.
Mercury’s station on January 1, 2024 reminds us all that we are moving ahead and attracting new opportunities by feeling like we could end up in “the right place at the right time.” Thoughts become things, and Mercury’s station in the hopeful fire sign of Sagittarius proclaims this for 2024. Mercury also stations at 22 degrees of Sagittarius, which is just off by two degrees from the New Moon in Sagittarius that we celebrated on December 12th, 2023.
Keep working with what you are trying to bring into your life. Remember that this is about suspension of disblief, as Neptune requests and requires that you trust the process and let go of control. Mercury in Capricorn is a stratregic placement, where you can plan the future with clarity and back it up with action.
The Sun in Sagittarius forms a challenging square to Neptune in Pisces on December 16, 2023 at 10:43 pm EST at 24 degrees and 55 minutes. This is a very draining energy, so make sure to take extra time for self care and getting rest. This can be very creative and romantic, but it will likely be emotional. Get extra rest. Chant, pray, and manfest. This combination speaks back to the New Moon in Sagittarius. The dream and vision are still there, but it takes extra time to make a plan. The Sun and Neptune in conflict bring uncertainty.
This could make you doubt yourself, and deception could be in the air. Dreams are magnified. Immerse yourself in those dreams as much as possible and cleanse the negativity, as it is easy to absorb other people’s energy.
