January – Hi Everyone,
This is a huge time for all of us collectively. Saturn, the planet of karmic lessons, challenges, and structure, has just changed signs and entered its home sign of Capricorn. This is a big deal! The last time Saturn entered Capricorn was February 13, 1988. Saturn rules government, leaders, big corporations; as well as the skin, teeth, and skeletal system. Saturn rules structure, karma, and responsibility. We will all be going through huge restructuring and facing karma for past actions. We also can restructure our present and future by taking responsibility. That is one of the primary lessons of Saturn.
Whenever an outer planet change signs, it is a very big deal. Saturn changing signs and entering its home sign of Capricorn really hones in on the the areas where each of needs to take accountability. When I was a child, my father would constantly use the expression, \”Everyone has his turn in the barrel.\” It is an old fashioned expression, but the gist is the same for any generation.None of us escapes his or her karma or past decisions. Each of of has a turn in the barrel at some point and has to face an unpleasant or painful task, truth, or situation; none of is immune. Saturn is the cosmic taskmaster of the zodiac.
I cannot tell you the amount of times I have heard clients or friends complain about Saturn transits. I try to remind them that Saturn cycles make it very clear what is working, and what is not working in our lives. If we work hard with Saturn and heed the lessons, we can crystallize our goals in a big way and structure ambitions, goals, relationships, and commitments. We can ground ourselves. We can find purpose. Saturn is karmic, and it rewards hard work.
My ascendant is at a late degree of Sagittarius, and I could barely mobilize myself to do things this past few weeks as Saturn saddled my Ascendant. I had to remind myself that this will pass, and Saturn will reward my hard work with patience and time. It was tough to accept that given how I felt. I was fully and completely aware of every limitation in my life, and the glass was barely full from my Saturn-imposed vantage. That is Saturn for you! You can feel completely stuck and unable to move forward. Tap into patience and tap into self compassion.
Saturn in now in the Cardinal earth sign of Capricorn. Saturn has moved from fire to earth, and it is time to get grounded and get real. Those born under the cardinal earth sign of Capricorn will feel it the most. Whenever Saturn transits in your sign, it is a time of restructuring, committing to new things in your life, and ending things that block your maturation. Saturn entered the Cardinal earth sign of Sagittarius on December 19, 2017 at 11:49 pm EST, where it will transit through December 16, 2020.
For all of us, Saturn in Capricorn is a big deal because it is in the sign which it rules. Once you get past the limitations and the challenges, you see how much it can anchor your goals and enable you to achieve so much with hard work and persistence. Capricorn is a Cardinal sign, which means it is action and goal oriented. Cardinal signs are the signs which get things going and make things happen! That is the positive side of this. If you are working hard towards your goals — whether they be personal or professional — you can really make your life more solid now. Saturn in Capricorn does not play games. If you are acting like Neptunian and in avoidance, Saturn will be waiting for you right at the door.
Today marks the Winter Solstice when The Sun enters 0 degrees of Capricorn, which is the world axis and a very powerful degree. This also happens to be the degree at which Saturn is right now. This is time to get serious. I do not think it is any coincidence that the biggest tax overhaul in 30 years went through on the day that Saturn entered Capricorn. Both Saturn and Capricorn rule government and big businesses, and thirty years is a Saturn cycle. It takes between 28.5 and 30 years for Saturn to orbit the Sun.
The Winter Solstice chart has Saturn conjunct the Sun, which marks a serious tone for the next few months until the Spring Equinox chart. The Capricorn Ingress chart, which is the Winter Solstice when the sun enters Capricorn, creates a chart which sets the tone for the next few months. The last time Saturn and the Sun were conjunct in Capricorn on the winter Solstice was in 1664. This happens very infrequently, and demands that you pay very close attention to what lessons come up for you now, what is happening in the world, and what you need to do to ground yourself and grow. It is time to ground, restructure, and improve your purpose and identity. It may feel limiting, but it can be highly useful if you focus on your goals.
It is time to get real with yourself. Saturn in Sagittarius was about restructuring your belief systems and inner truth; but, Saturn in Capricorn is more about being a disciplinarian with yourself. It is time to acknowledge your weaknesses and strengths in a very candid manner so that you can build your strengths. Sometimes, the biggest gift is to be aware of your limitations, as it helps you to focus your energy in a much more strategic way. Mercury is in retrograde in Sagittarius in the Winter Solstice chart, which means there is a reflective tone on how you can expand and gain wisdom through all of the Capricorn hard work ahead!
Mercury stations direct on December 22, 2017 at 8:51 EST at 23 degrees of Sagittarius. Venus changes signs this week and enters 0 degrees of Capricorn on December 25, 2017 at 12:26 AM EST. Now Venus confers with Saturn and may set a somber tone; but, it also means getting real about relationships, money, and what is of value to you.
It may not be the be the effusive and joyful holiday season ever, but I think that is hardly a surprise with such a difficult year filled with Natural disasters and devastating loss. Be aware and honest with yourself of what you find is lacking in your life and commit to doing something about it. That is the first Saturn in Capricorn lesson! There will be plenty more ahead.
